WCC-DB issue preconditions before coalition talks
The coalition of We Continue the Change (WCC) and Democratic Bulgaria (DB) proposed a declaration affirming GERB's independence from Delyan Peevski as a prerequisite for initiating government talks.
WCC co-chair Kiril Petkov also said that the coalition would not accept Boyko Borissov as prime minister. GERB refused to make any further comment, saying they had already expressed their position after the elections. Meanwhile, Ahmed Dogan, leader of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms, hinted his party may support a GERB-WCC-DB cabinet.
Business climate suffers sharpest drop since the pandemic
Bulgaria's business climate dropped sharply in October, with the overall economic environment index falling by 5.6 points from September to 16.9%-its lowest level since October 2022, according to the National Statistics Institute. This monthly decline marks the most significant drop since the onset of the pandemic in April 2020.
Business managers across all sectors report worsened expectations for the coming months and more cautious assessments of their current situation. Economic uncertainty and labor shortages remain the most commonly cited issues facing companies, particularly impacting the retail sector, although all sectors have seen a decline.
State to guarantee new loans for Chaira
The 2025 draft budget will cover state-backed loans for Chaira hydropower plant repairs, totaling 155 million levs. The caretaker government approved the energy minister's proposal, citing increased costs and an expanded project scope.
Built as a critical piece of Bulgaria's energy infrastructure, Chaira is a pumped-storage power station, essential for balancing supply during peak demand and ensuring stability across the grid.
