Dogan seeks deferred election following associate's arrest

Ahmed Dogan's breakaway Alliance for Rights and Freedoms party (ARF) is appealing for a postponement to the upcoming election given "the extremely abnormal and tense situation", stated MRF co-chairman Dzhevdet Chakarov.

This follows the arrest of the lead candidate of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms in Shumen, Dzheyhan Ibramov, a close associate of Dogan.

"During the election campaign, and even before it, you can see that there has been an extraordinary activation of certain state authorities. All of this can be summed up as severe repression," Chakarov noted.

Ibryamov, who has been publicly feuding with the leader of the other wing in the MRF, Delyan Peevski, was arrested last night. This comes less than a month before the early parliamentary elections on October 27.

Ibryamov's was the first expulsion from the MRF parliamentary group after Dogan's wing refused Peevski's instruction to support the draft cabinet of GERB headed by Rosen Zhelyazkov and thus eliminated the possibility of forming a government.

Bulgargaz freezes Toplofikatsia Sofia accounts

All bank accounts of Toplofikatsia Sofia have been frozen following a request by Bulgargaz. The news was announced by municipal councilor Boris Bonev. According to BNT, the measure was likely taken due to overdue debts.

The company owes nearly 2 billion levs, accumulated over the years under the management of GERB. Bonev added that just a day after the company announced its readiness for the new heating season, its accounts were blocked by the state supplier.

Customers of Toplofikatsia Sofia will not be left without heating and hot water at the start of the heating season, despite the sudden freeze, pledged Sofia mayor Vasil Terziev.

Bulgarians in Iran urged to leave immediately

All Bulgarian citizens currently in Iran should leave the country immediately due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

"Bulgarians in Iran should strictly follow the security instructions of local authorities, stay informed about the situation, and avoid areas that may be military sites or locations where large gatherings are taking place," the ministry recommended. It also urged Bulgarian citizens in Iran to promptly report their location and planned length of stay to the embassy via the provided phone numbers or email.
