Regulator sets gas price for October

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission has approved the price of natural gas for the domestic market in October, with almost no changes to the proposal from Bulgargaz. As of today, the price is set at 63.72 lev/MWh, excluding access, transmission fees, excise duty, and VAT.

The new price is 2.9% lower than the one for September.

Trams cleaned with homemade rakia, inspection reveals

An inspection at a Sofia depot conducted by municipal councilors from WCC-DB and Spasi Sofia, revealed that tram windows are being cleaned with homemade rakia instead of cleaning products. It was also revealed that seats, instead of being washed, are being cleaned with a household vacuum cleaner, courtesy of employees. Sofia's Deputy Mayor of Transport, Eng. Iliyan Pavlov also revealed that the company hired via a 760 thousand lev contract is not meeting the requirements for the number of employees involved in cleaning.

"All contracts will be reviewed, and we will move towards an internal cleaning unit with an adequate budget and equipment," commented Pavlov on the findings in a social media video showing his inspection.

Young people struggle with debt

The fastest-growing group of people in debt are young Bulgarians, including those with good incomes. Men tend to manage finances worse and accumulate more debt than women and a significant portion of these issues stem from a lack of financial literacy, according to EOS Group data and observations in Bulgaria.

Perhaps surprisingly, it is not low-income individuals who accumulate the most debt, but rather young people with high salaries. The fastest-growing age group among debtors is young people under the age of 25. From 7.21% young debtors in 2021, their share has increased to 21.03% by September this year. As expected, young people are accumulating debt by purchasing consumer goods in installments-phones, electronics, and sports equipment.
