MRF power struggle ongoing

Delyan Peevski has announced that the honorary chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms MRF, Ahmed Dogan, and his entire faction are no longer part of the party, as they will be running on the lists of another formation in the upcoming elections.

According to Peevski, this is also why the request to remove him (Peevski) as chairman is of no significance. 'It doesn't matter what these defectors submit, as they are no longer part of MRF,' Peevski added.

Dogan submitted a request to the Sofia City Court on Friday (September 20) for a change in the party's registry. In the request, he referenced the decision of the Central Operational Bureau (one of the two most important governing bodies of the movement), which had excluded Peevski from MRF. Dogan's faction will now be participating in the October 27 elections under the name of Alliance of Rights and Freedoms.

Brussels supports Yettel buyout

The largest telecommunications deal in the region in recent years has finally received the green light after the European Commission approved the acquisition by Abu Dhabi's telecom company e& of a 50% plus one share stake in the Czech group PPF Telecom, which owns Yettel Bulgaria and CETIN Bulgaria.

This decision marks the first approval of such asset acquisitions under the EU's new Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR), aimed at strengthening control over foreign investment flows into the EU.

The 2.15 billion euro deal was agreed upon a year ago, but final approval has only just been granted, as the buyer first had to await permission from national antitrust regulators and later undergo Brussels' review. The payment and share transfer are likely a matter of weeks and will be the largest completed deal in Bulgaria for 2024, with Yettel and the network company valued at over 1.5 billion euros.

Siren and BG-Alert System test scheduled for October 1st

Next Tuesday, October 1st, at 11 a.m., the national early warning and alert system (sirens) and the BG-Alert system will be tested in dozens of locations, the fire department announced today. The tests are in order to check the technical condition of the system and to train the population to recognize signals and messages.

During the test, the national alarm/end-of-alarm signal will be broadcast through the acoustic devices. The test will take place in Sofia, Burgas, Varna, Kardzhali, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Ruse, Smolyan, Vratsa, Stara Zagora; in municipalities in the regions of Vidin, Pernik, and Yambol; and in settlements within a 30-kilometer zone around the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant.
