Sofia Airport unveils Terminal 3 design
The concessionaire Sof Connect and investor Meridiam presented their concept for the future Terminal 3 at Sofia Airport today. The project, valued at 500 million levs, aims to transform the airport into Europe's first 5-star regional hub, with capacity for 20 million passengers annually. It is due to open in 2031.

Bulgaria nominates Zaharieva as new EU commissioner
Bulgaria's prime minister Dimitar Glavchev has confirmed the nomination of Ekaterina Zaharieva as Sofia's new, sole candidate for EU commissioner. Zaharieva's career to date includes heading multiple ministries such as that of Regional Development, Justice and, finally, Foreign Affairs.
Julian Popov, from WCC, had been the other candidate on the initial shortlist for consideration but it is believed that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen favored Zaharieva.
Notably, Zaharieva was embroiled in a scandal involving Petar Haralampiev, who in 2018 headed the Bulgarian State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad. Haralampiev was arrested for running an illegal scheme to issue Bulgarian citizenship documents to foreigners and was accused of leading an organized crime group. Zaharieva faced scrutiny over her role although an investigation into her tenure revealed no evidence of wrongdoing.
