Bulgaria sends howitzers to Ukraine
Bulgaria has sent Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov has confirmed. Zapryanov was responding to journalists' questions about social media photos showing such howitzers in Ukraine. However, he stressed that he cannot confirm whether the equipment in the photos is Bulgarian, as other former Warsaw Pact countries have also been supplying similar weapons to Kyiv.
The Defense Minister further explained that Bulgaria has sent eight packages of weapons, equipment and ammunition to Ukraine, and promised that all of them were in surplus to the needs of the Bulgarian Army.
Young Bulgarians spurn current affairs
A growing majority of people in Bulgaria are increasingly unable, or unwilling, to make sense of the fast-paced, chaotic information from traditional and new media outlets, leading to difficulties in forming informed opinions, states an Alpha Research survey from May 2024.
The report highlights that young Bulgarians, and even those over 30, are "completely uninterested" in information on domestic or foreign political issues. They do not actively follow news, and rarely, or never, watch TV. Meanwhile, nearly half of the population cannot distinguish between true and fake news, and more than 20% admit to sharing news they suspect might be false.
