60% higher electricity bills
Electricity prices in the country have risen to over 470 levs per MWh in recent days, among the highest this year. In the evening hours, the prices reach the levels of over 1,700 levs per MWh.
According to the market volatility, electricity bills will increase in June compared to May by about 20%. The big difference will come in the July bills, which will come in by August 10. They will be almost 40% higher than June if the market continues at these levels for the next 10 days. Therefore, business invoices' could grow by more than 60% since May, and given the heatwave and higher cooling demand, the actual cost could be even higher.
Giant IT crash
Companies and organizations worldwide, from banks to airlines and media, have suffered from a massive IT failure that has caused disruption and delays to a range of services. The blow also affected a number of companies in Bulgaria such as banks and telecoms. There are also flight delays at many airports in Europe.
According to experts, the crash was due to an update to the CrowdStrike software, which blocked Windows systems. Employees of large companies in Bulgaria told "Capital" that they have been unable to use their office computers since the morning because of the familiar "blue screen of death", on account of the Microsoft operating system having been blocked.
Glavchev to keep coal plants
Caretaker prime minister Dimitar Glavchev's cabinet plans to request another change to the Recovery and Resilience Plan in order to keep Bulgarian coal plants operational until 2038. For this purpose, the Ministry Council will submit a proposal to modify the plants and even change the content of the energy REpowerEU chapter.
A decision on this was taken at the last government meeting on Wednesday, but without specific details. It is only indicated that the cabinet will obey the decision of the Parliament to keep the coal plants. The controversial decision was taken last year by MPs.
