Stoyanov targeted over forest fires
WCC demanded the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Kalin Stoyanov, because of the failure to deal with the widespread forest fires of recent days.
The party said that the damage inflicted by the devastating blaze in Voden, in southeastern Bulgaria, was exacerbated by poor organization rather than insufficient funds.
Vazrazhdane also demanded Stoyanov's head today. In the meantime fires have reached dozens of villages around Karlovo, Yambol and southern Bulgaria.
Office market is booming
The office market in Sofia recorded a slight drop in vacant spaces in the second quarter of the year. The vacant rate reached 15.3%, despite the growth in the supply of new rental properties.
The period saw moderate activity among new companies looking for offices, while contract renewals reduced their share of the total transaction volume.
According to companies' information, in the period April - June, 37,088 square meters of office space was leased in Sofia, which is comparable to the volumes of the market for the second quarter of the last five years.
The net utilized areas, which reflect the difference between leased and vacant offices, are at a relatively good level - 23,106 sq m. The main reason is the growing share of new contracts and extensions at the expense of the declining share of renewals, which falls to 22% of the total volume in the second quarter compared to over 40% of the market in previous periods.
1300 redundancies in Pleven
The factory Leoni producing automotive cables in Pleven, owned by the German concern Leoni, is closing down. This will happen in stages until the end of the year, after which the company Leoni Bulgaria will go into liquidation, according to a statement.
The main reason is the lack of a future perspective, difficulties with hiring staff and inflation.
The announcement states that the Bulgarian branch, which opened in 2018, is becoming an economic burden for the group. A total of 1,300 people stand to lose their jobs in the wake of the decision.
