Bulgaria will ask for new Eurozone entry date once inflation is stable

Bulgaria's commitment to join the Eurozone as soon as possible remains a priority and the technical preparation continues at a pace, announced Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova at the regular July meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council in Brussels.

When the last criterion - for price stability - is met, Bulgaria will use the opportunity to request extraordinary convergent reports, although Petkova failed to mention a date.

It is important for Bulgaria to receive a quick assessment of its readiness from the European institutions and a specific date for accession, she added. This will ensure continuity for business and society and a sufficient time horizon to complete the process.

Czech Republic donates two helicopters to fight local fires

Bulgaria will receive two helicopters from the Czech Republic, one of which is from the rescEU firefighting fleet, in response to the urgent request for help in the fight against forest fires, the European Commission announced, specifying that the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated.

The EU's emergency response coordination center continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that additional assistance can be provided if needed.

This summer, the EC formed a fleet of aircraft and pre-deployed firefighters across Europe to tackle extreme heats and damage - 556 firefighters from 12 countries are strategically located in key locations across Europe.

Heatwave to peak tomorrow

The current heat wave will be at its worst today and tomorrow, and Wednesday will see its peak, climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev announced this morning.

Rachev cited a new record for Sandanski - in the last eight days, the average daily temperature there has been over 30 degrees. It was around 20 degrees in the early morning, and 40 degrees in the afternoon.

"The cooling we were hoping for will be weaker than expected," Rachev also warned. The climatologist predicts lower temperatures across the country on Saturday and Sunday, when temperatures are expected to drop by about 5-7 degrees. After that, however, the heat will likely return.
