New directors appointed to key municipal companies

Twenty five people have been proposed and elected as directors of Sofia's six key municipal companies which manage more than 3 billion levs - and all of the appointees occurred without debate. The vote is related to the heads of the three transport operators - Metropolitan, Stolichen auto- and electric transport, and the Center for Urban Mobility, as well as district heating plants Toplofikatsia Sofia and Sofinvest. This happened thanks to the votes of GERB, BSP (without Diana Tonova), TSP, former Vazrazhdane councilors and Carlos Contrera from VMRO.

However, the decisive "yes" vote in the final vote in the municipal council came from Blagovest Georgiev, who is from WCC. The vote sparked huge debates with mayor Vassil Terziev accusing the parties who supported the change of political corruption.

MRFs ethnic tensions explode

Supporters of MRF honorary chairman Ahmed Dogan and co-chairman Delyan Peevski have accused each other of sowing ethnic tension. After the last exodus, 23 MPs remain in the MRF group - i.e. those who are loyal to Peevski, while the leavers and expelled who support Dogan now number 24.

Deputy chairman of the movement, Yordan Tsonev, attacked Dogan for exploiting the Turkish ethnicity card. He said that party members from the Muslim ethnic group had been told "to take back the party from the Bulgarians and Pomaks". Hamid Hamid added that the pressure was "very aggressive" and came from Jevdet Chakarov, Ramadan Atalai, Jeyhan Ibryamov and Savim Ali, who made a phone call in which they pleaded members not "to betray our ethnicity".

Heatwave settles in for Bulgaria

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology issued an orange code for dangerous heat for the entire country today, BTA reports. After noon, there will be cumulus clouds over the eastern regions, but only in isolated places in the southeastern regions, short-lived rain will fall.

Maximum temperatures will be between 34° and 39°, in Sofia - around 34°. The long heatwave is expected to continue in the next few weeks.

This is the case over the Black Sea coast as well. Maximum temperatures will be between 30° and 35° while the temperature of the sea water remains very high - 26°-27°.
