MRF letter to ambassadors blames Dogan for foiling GERB govt
A letter sent by MRF to EU and NATO ambassadors blames the party's honorary chairman Ahmed Dogan for opposition to the proposed GERB government last week. It goes on to claim that "close ties" with Russia and a "hybrid attack" made Dogan retract his support and that this, in turn, influenced some of MRF's MPs.
The letter was sent last week shortly after a failed attempt to form a government on July 3. It was signed by the Deputy Chairman of the DPS Stanislav Anastasov who is a close ally of chairman Delyan Peevski.
According to Kapital, the Central Operational Bureau (close leadership) of the MRF had decided to support the proposed GERB cabinet with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov as "the only option in this parliament to form a stable Euro-Atlantic government to ensure Bulgaria's continued membership in EU and NATO". But Dogan gave instructions through phone calls not to support the government.
Money goes to startups again
Flows of cash towards startups in Bulgaria will continue via BrightCap's second fund, worth 60 million euro. Of these, 44 million euro have already been distributed with the rest ready to be made available in the next two years.
The total amount is more than twice that of the first fund, which began in 2018 with 25 million euro. Half of the money for the new fund - 30 million euro - comes from the recovery and resilience plans of Bulgaria (20 million euro) and Romania (10 million eurs), and the selection of teams for funds under them that are managed by the European Investment Fund (EIF).
With public funds comes a condition that the money must be invested in companies that are connected to both countries. The majority of the resources will be for Bulgarian companies.
Bulgargaz to sue Gazprom
State gas supplier Bulgargaz has filed a lawsuit against the Russian company Gazprom Export before the Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, the Bulgarian company announced.
Bulgaria is seeking compensation of more than 400 million euro for damages incurred as a result of the unilateral suspension of natural gas supplies in April 2022.
In May 2024, Bulgargaz EAD sent an invitation to Gazprom Export for a voluntary settlement of the claim according to the contract between the two companies. The Russian side has done nothing to settle the matter out of court, the message said.
