WCC-DB Opposes Hyundai's Exclusivity Over Kozloduy

The chairmen of GERB and the MRF parliamentary groups, Boyko Borissov and Delyan Peevski, have again criticized WCC-DB, their coalition partners. This time it's over the latter's opposition to the proposal of the chairman of the energy commission, Delyan Dobrev (GERB), to include a last minute paragraph in the agenda for the Kozloduy nuclear project which involves American company Westinghouse.

The paragraph presents two draft decisions by which the Council of Ministers would be assigned to start negotiations with South Korean company Hyundai for the construction of units VII and VIII of Kozloduy NPP.

Hyundai is the only company that meets the technical and financial conditions for the project contractor to enter into a consortium with the American Westinghouse, according to whose AP-1000 technology the reactors will be built. But Hyundai was chosen after a dubious tender and there are rumours that GERB and MRF want to work exclusively with them.

Gabriel Rejects WCC-DBs Reform Memorandum

Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel announced that she will not sign a memorandum proposed by WCC-DB because, she claims, it refers to political trading for positions in regulatory bodies. She also says it represents an attempt to control the judicial system in violation of the Constitution.

The memorandum, circulated this morning, contains proposals for reforms in various areas after March 6, when the rotation of the prime minister's post between Nikolay Denkov and Maria Gabriel is scheduled. GERB leader Boyko Borissov and chairman of the MRF parliamentary group, Delyan Peevski, have both also opposed the memorandum.

Nova TV Changes Leadership

United Media announced that it will replace the CEO of Nova TV - one of Bulgaria's three major news channels

Dirk Gerkens returns as CEO of Nova Broadcasting Group (the company that owns Nova Television). He was in the same position for several months from the end of 2021 until May 2022, when Stefana Zdravkova was appointed.

The reforms resulted in another major change - the news editor in chief of the TV was also replaced.
