Kiril Petkov: "Gabriel is the key to Schengen and the Eurozone"

Former prime minister Kiril Petkov has apologized to the coalition's voters for not keeping his promise to avoid including GERB personnel in any eventual government propped up by WCC-DB.

Petkov mentions Mariya Gabriel, who, according to the agreed rotation government, will initially be deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs for the first 9 months, and will then become prime minister.

Writing on Facebook, Petkov said that Gabriel was the key to building a stable government, noting her "indisputable qualities and competence in Brussels". He added that her lengthy time outside Bulgaria distinguished her from other political figures. "She can be an important assembly of this rotation mechanism, without betraying our beliefs and the real fight against corruption," he wrote.

Prosecutor's collegium again seeks Geshev's dismissal

Four members of the prosecutor's collegium of the Supreme Judicial Council have submitted a second, new proposal for the formal resignation of chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev.

This week, the council is due to rule on the admissibility of the first such proposal, which was published last week.

The signatories claim they seek Geshev's dismissal because he has damaged the prestige of the judiciary and violated the Code of Ethical Behavior of Bulgarian Magistrates.

Cupffee raises EUR 1.8 million

Plovdiv-based edible and biodegradable coffee cup producer Cupffee has raised EUR 1.8 million. EUR 500 thousand of these came from Bulgarian VC firm Eleven Ventures as a pre-seed round, while the remaining EUR 1.3 million came under a grant from the European Innovation Council (EIC).

Cupffee produces two cup sizes based on grinded oats and whole flour. Cups can handle cold and hot drinks up to 85 degrees for 40 minutes while keeping their crispiness. Among its clients is the coffee giant Lavazza, but also many other enterprises throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The money will go towards entering new markets and expanding its sales team.
