Kozloduy needs Russian parts

The government has voted to request another derogation from the EU aimed at bypassing sanctions against Russia - this time to import parts, materials and services to begin repairs and maintenance of Kozloduy nuclear power plant.

Energy Minister Rossen Hristov claims that the parts are of critical importance for the security of the power plant.

The derogation also allows the import of iron and steel products from Russia. Bulgaria has long depended on Russia for tech maintenance of critical equipment and infrastructure.

Eleven Ventures chooses best startups for unicorn program

Bulgarian venture capital fund Eleven Ventures has announced the selected participants in its Eleven Alpha unicorn program. The recipients of EUR 300,000 of equity against a 10% stake and a customized growth plan prepared by the fund are: local firms Flataway and True Insights, Greek startup MyTeam and Slovenia's Perfeqt. Each startup is from a sector in which Eleven traditionally invests, usually fintech and healthcare.

The Eleven Alpha program seeks to shorten the investment process, so that no more than 2 months pass from submitting an application to signing a deal. "We received applications from more than 450 early-stage startups from 25 countries," said the fund.

OneCoin employee extradited

The founder of OneCoin, Ruzha Ignatova, may have disappeared several years ago but international courts continue to seek employees of the crypto which swindled hundreds of thousands into believing in the alleged miracle of bitcoin.

Irina Dilkinska, who worked as the crypto company's head of legal department from 2015 to 2018, was extradited from Bulgaria on March 20, according to the New York prosecutor's office. She will now face charges of conspiracy, fraud and money laundering with each carrying a maximum 20-year prison term.

Disguised as a cryptocurrency, OneCoin utilzed a Ponzi-like scheme to attract more than three billion euro from 2.1 million active members.
