Election surveillance operation via phone

Video surveillance of machine and paper ballot counting in the April 2nd election will be conducted via mobile devices, according to the contract between the ministry of e-governance and the state-owned technology company "Information Service". A total of 12,130 mobile devices will be distributed across the country, connected via software, and will broadcast publicly.

The contract does not explicitly state what the mobile devices will be, but according to newspaper Dnevnik they will be phones. According to unofficial data, the state will focus on them because they can be provided quickly.

The contract with "Information Service" states that, in addition to mobile devices (by March 21), the company must develop an app where people can watch a video broadcast of ballot counting, as well as a platform where broadcasts from the sections can be viewed in real time.

Eurostat: 49% of Bulgarians shop online compared to EU average of 75%

Fewer than 50% of Bulgarians shopped online in 2022 (49%), according to Eurostat's annual survey. Bulgaria scores last place in the European Union according to this indicator, although registering a 7 percent increase on 2021, when only 42% of people shopped online. More than 76% of all online shoppers ordered clothes, shoes and accessories. Nearly 19% requested deliveries from restaurants, fast food chains, and catering, and more than 19% ordered accommodation (from hotels, travel agencies, tour operators or from private individuals), data shows.

In comparison, 75% of EU residents purchased goods or services online in 2022. The share of online shoppers has grown from 55% in 2012 to 75% in 2022, an increase of 20 percent. Internet users are most numerous in the Netherlands (92%), Denmark (90%) and Ireland (89%).

BG startup Karavani.bg raises EUR 60 thousand

Bulgarian book platform for caravans Karavani.bg has raised more than 60 thousand euros from micro-investors and is considering a new investment round. The fresh funds will be used to support the overall development of the website and new partnerships.

The startup aims to establish its position in Bulgaria in 2023 and expects to enter foreign markets in 2024. Launched in 2021, it offers online booking of caravans as well as bungalows, campers, tents and dome houses.
