The subsidiary company of Swiss-registered Nexo has claimed that it has no obligations to the state. The company NDS showed a report from the National Revenue Agency dated January 27, according to which it has no financial liabilities whatsoever.
The clarification followed a statement by caretaker finance minister Rositsa Velkova who said audit reports indicated that BGN 12,000 was overdue.
Nexo's owner Antoni Trenchev reiterated that there is no intergovernmental investigation causing the raid of their offices, but rather that it is an initiative of Ivan Geshev, the chief prosecutor. Geshev had previously said that both US and UK were involved in the process.
More foreigners visit Bulgaria
The number of foreigners visiting Bulgaria in December surpassed the number of Bulgarians leaving the country, according to data from the National Statistical Institute.
In December 2022, just under 762,000 foreign citizens visited Bulgaria, or 60.3% more than in December the previous year. In total, 14.1% of the visits were business-related.
Traditionally, half of the foreigners are from the European Union - 51.1%, or 389,000, with the highest visitor numbers from Romania - 39.8% and Greece - 30.7%.
EFET criticizes Bulgargaz
The European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET) has criticized an agreement between Bulgarian gas distributor Bulgargaz and the Turkish energy company Botas for access to Turkey's gas transmission infrastructure, stating that it implies unfair competition and limits access to the gas market.
The association is in effect saying that the national distributor Bulgargaz is not being fair to other distributors in the country and the signed deal should have included the system operator Bulgartransgaz, not Bulgargaz.
