Hristov denies Russian gas will come via Botash

Energy Minister Rosen Hristov has dismissed rumors that the contract which Bulgarian gas supplier Bulgargaz signed with Turkish company Botash will be used to import Russian gas as "conspiracy" talk.

The agreement signed in Sofia on January 3rd between Bulgargaz and Botash will remain in force for 13 years.

"There is no way Russian gas can enter the national transmission network disguised as Turkish, American or any other gas," added Hristov.

Retail products in price spike

The price of eggs has increased by 82%, potatoes by 60%, sugar by 52%, and flour by 18%, compared to January 2022, according to the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets.

"One wholesale egg costs 40-41 stotinki. 18 stotinki is the nominal increase, which is quite a lot," added an official from the group. The wholesale prices of products have suffered the biggest increase due to inflation topping 20% inflation on an annual basis.

Proposal: Farmers to get tax relief

MP's from WCC have submitted a proposal for tax relief for farmers who receive state subsidies. The document says that farmers registered as such can deduct from their tax base (if they are individuals) or from the taxable profit (if they are a company) up to BGN 100,000. The measure was introduced in Parliament at the end of last week.

The subject of tax rebates on subsidies has been raised periodically over the years by farmers.
