Low-emission zones for cars belonging to the first eco-category will be introduced from December 1 until the end of February 2024 in a move thought to affect about 120,000 vehicles entering the center of Sofia.

The Metropolitan Municipality is also mulling introducing a congestion charge. The measure is intended to decrease traffic by charging cars for entering certain city zones.
