Bulgaria's Schenghen application considered separately
Bulgarian MEP Petar Vitanov has said that Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia will not be admitted to Schengen.
He added that he believed that Bulgaria's application will be considered separately from those of Romania and Croatia, an opinion corroborated by sources in the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
"Being separated from Romania and Croatia would be an extremely negative outcome for Bulgaria and a political humiliation.There are no legal, technical, or political reasons why. The only reason I can think of is that Brussels does not want Bulgaria in Schengen yet," Vitanov concluded.
Renewable installations score record profits
Renewable energy installations in Bulgaria registered net profit growth of 60.4% in 2021, reaching 284.5 million euros, according to annual analysis of the industry prepared by the business news and analysis agency SeeNews and law firm Gugushev & Partners.
The analysis covers 1,869 domestic companies. The surge in profits is mainly due to soaring energy prices in the past few months. During the summer electricity was traded for above 400 euros per MWh in the national energy exchange. Current rates are half that.
84.6% self-identify as Bulgarian
A total of 5,118,494 people, or 84.6% of the country's population, self-identify as Bulgarian, the National Statistical Institute has said. Compared to 2011, the share of this group decreased by 0.2 percentage points.
Meanwhile, 508,378, or 8.4% of participants in the survey, self-identify as belonging to the Turkish ethnic group. Their relative share decreased by 0.4 percentage points compared to 2011.
The survey also revealed that 266,720, or 4.4% of the respondents, self-identify as being part of the Roma ethnic group. The relative share of the population from this ethnic group decreased by 0.5 percentage points compared to 2011.
