MPs vote to buy US fighter jets

Parliament has approved the purchase of eight new F-16 fighter jets from the US. The decision was taken on Friday by a large majority of 162 votes.The contract for the production and delivery of the first eight F-16 Block 70 fighter jets was signed in 2019. They were to be delivered in 2023, but the US later announced that their delivery would be delayed due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In April this year, it became clear that the US has also provided Bulgaria with a new offer for the purchase of 8 more F-16 fighter jets, which is "comparable" to the first contract.

Gov't to tax Lukoil refinery

Companies operating in the crude oil, natural gas, coal and refining sectors should pay an additional tax of 33% on the top of the weighted average profit for the last four years, the government has proposed. The new taxation will affect the Lukoil Neftohim Burgas refinery, which for the first time in years turned a profit in 2021.

Arms manufacturer records profit boost

Sopot-based arms manufacturer Vazov Machine-Building Plants (VMZ) has recorded a 3-fold increase in sales and a 15-fold increase in profits for the first nine months of 2022. Together with the expected revenues by the end of the year, the company's turnover could exceed 450 million leva.
