GERB leader Boyko Borissov has described the referendums Russia staged in Ukraine as a "farce" and said that if GERB were in government, the party would not recognise their results. In his words, "these so-called referendums are invalid and illegal". Borissov also pledged that, with GERB in charge, "anyone who does not want to kill and be killed in this senseless war, will have asylum in Bulgaria" - a reference to those Russian citizens evading military service.

Gas to finally flow through Greece interconnector

According to regional minister Ivan Shishov, the interconnector with Greece has received Act 16, allowing it to finally be tapped. The completion of the project was delayed for nearly 12 years, most of them during GERB's rule. In 2022, Kiril Petkov's cabinet set a target for its expedited completion.The link is essential for energy independence from Gazprom, which earlier this year unilaterally decided to cut off gas supplies to Bulgaria.

Finance Ministry proposes VAT exemptions for some companies

Companies that have uncollected receivables from a counterparty should be able to reduce their VAT tax base, the Finance Ministry has declared. Currently this is not permitted by legislation and is only allowed on termination or cancellation of a contract. The proposal is part of a package of proposed changes to tax laws for next year.

Public tender for Plovdiv Concert Hall renovation announced

The Ministry of Culture has announced a public tender for the long-awaited major renovation and reconstruction of the Concert Hall in Plovdiv to turn it into a multifunctional hall for symphony concerts and stage productions of the State Opera - Plovdiv. The total financial resources required for the execution of the contract amount to BGN 12 108 815,64.
