"With her passing, Britain and the world lost a remarkable statesman who marked an entire era with her life and deeds," President Rumen Radev said in a letter of condolence to King Charles III, whose mother Queen Elizabeth passed away yesterday. Radev paid tribute to the Queen as one of history's great leaders and as a monarch who had governed with wisdom and a strong sense of statesmanship during difficult times.

Caretaker govt pledges to keep social benefits intact

The caretaker cabinet will not take part in deciding on the 2023 state budget and will not cut pensions, tax breaks and other social benefits adopted by the previous government, deputy prime minister for EU funds management Atanas Pekanov said in an interview. The comment comes a day after former Finance Minister Assen Vassilev issued a statement according to which he had obtained a report from the Ministry of Finance showing that cuts in social benefits were in the pipeline.

Industrial output marks 20% annual growth

According to preliminary data from the National Statistics Institute(NSI), in July 2022 industrial output registered a month-on-month growth of 0.9%. An annual increase of 17.7% in industrial output was also registered. A 12.7% output increase in the production and distribution of electricity, heat and gas was reported, compared to last month. The extractive industry grew by 3.9% over the same period while output in the manufacturing sector shrunk by 1.6%.

Construction sector shrinks further

In July 2022, output in the construction sector continued to decline, with a 0.5% drop compared to the previous month, according to preliminary data published by the National Statistics Institute (NSI). The data also shows a 1.1% decrease in construction output in July 2022 compared to July 2021. According to the NSI, the decline in construction output in July was driven by declining rates of real estate development.
