The Specialized Prosecution office is to investigate Vazrazdane MP Elena Guncheva after receiving tip-offs from citizens, announced the Prosecution's office. Guncheva has posted a publication on social media in which she says that Russia has precision weapons capable of targeting Bulgaria's Council of Members. Such a post could be construed as possible incitement to war against Bulgaria. Her comments come against the background of the recent and ongoing aggressive pro-Putin posturing of Russia's ambassador to Bulgaria, Eleonora Mitrofanova.

Bulgarian Armed Forces upgrade defenses

The Bulgarian Armed Forces will extend its combat and defensive capabilities in the region of the Bulgarian Black Sea. This became clear during Minister of Defense Dragomir Zarkov's presentation citing priority projects to modernize the military. "It is time to make state decisions. They are not always popular," he commented. He has formulated nine priority projects to modernize Bulgaria's armed forces: artillery support capabilities, 3D radars, air defense, drones, diesel-electric submarines, ammunition for the navy, coastal missile systems, field communication, and information equipment.

Business climate worsens in March

Unsurprisingly, the war in Ukraine and its already visible repercussions have undermined business confidence. In March 2022, the overall business climate confidence indicator decreased by 4.8 percentage points compared to February, according to data from NSI. Unsurprisingly, the negative impact of the "economic environment" factor is also growing.

Health insurance for Ukrainian refugees

Parliament has voted on first reading to provide health insurance for Ukrainian refugees who receive temporary protection in Bulgaria. This will be covered by state funds. The opposition parties (GERB, Vazrazhdane, and MRF) abstained.
