On Monday Ex-Prime Minister Boyko Borissov was questioned in the Sofia Prosecutor's Office. He was summoned after the state prosecution announced that they would repeat all procedural and investigative actions stemming from businessman Vassil Bozhkov's signal. Mr. Bozhkov says he was blackmailed by the former Prime Minister, former Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov and Gerb's PR representative Sevdalina Arnaudova.

Kiril Petkov on corruption, Russia and N. Macedonia

The Russian Federation is using local-level corruption to influence policy in the Balkan region, stressed Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov after a meeting between heads of government of NATO members in Southeastern Europe - the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Romania, and Montenegro. The Prime Minister did not go into specifics.

Petkov said that the Balkans needed to become a stronger region. He added that its leaders have discussed measures for common security, and coordination in the energy sector in order to reduce Russian influence in the region. The Bulgarian Prime Minister said he is optimistic about North Macedonia's EU accession negotiations and expects the process to speed up in the coming weeks.

Bulgarian Navy checking mine alert in the Black Sea

After receiving a signal about a naval mine spotted in the Black Sea, the Bulgarian Navy will carry out a reconnaissance and survey of the area, the Defense Ministry announced today.

The signal emanated from the Turkish Rescue Center which reported that a Turkish ship had spotted a mine at around 6 a.m. (Bulgarian time) about 37 nautical miles east-southeast of Cape Galata.

The Navy will survey the area by helicopter and send a ship with a demining team if necessary.

Prosecution refuses to investigate Peevski over Pandora papers

The MRF MP Delyan Peevski, who was sanctioned by the USA for corruption under Magnitski law, has not committed any crime and has acquired his fortune through a property empire worth more than 20 million levs. This was the ruling of prosecutor Todor Denkov from the specialized prosecutor's office in a decree running to more than 30 pages. He refused to initiate pre-trial proceedings regarding 38 property transactions of Peevski dating to the end of 2021, reported Dnevnik media.
