There will be no Hemus highway in 3 years

The caretaker minister of regional development has blasted the ex-prime minister's promise of a brand new highway in North Bulgaria in 2024. This is a pipe-dream, she said, citing lack of preparation, permits and even project readiness. The state-owned Avtomagistrali received 1.4 billion leva (700 million euro) for the 240 km that needs to be built. Work has begun only on 3 sections of the road, totalling a little over 50 km.

Machine voting does not violate the Constitution

This is the ruling of the Constitutional court, which came out just before the elections next week. The last parliament decided that all citizens will vote through machines for the first time. The ex-ruling party GERB addressed the court with a plea to forge equality between citizens - claiming that compulsory machine voting could disenfranchise those incapable of mastering such a system.

No pollution in Bulgarian waters after explosion at Romanian oil-refinery

The refinery in Konstanza exploded today, just 25 km from the Bulgarian border. There is constant monitoring of the waters in the Bulgarian section of the Black Sea. Along the shore lie some popular resorts and beaches but for now the streams and the wind do not suggest the oil spill will spread.
