Sofia brings back low-emission zones from 1 December for more than 140,000 polluting vehicles

Owners of petrol cars made before 1998 or diesel models made before 2007 will be restricted from driving in the ring covering the Patriarch Evtimiy, Skobelev, Opalchenska, Slivnitsa and Vasil Levski boulevards from 1 December to 28 February. This is due to the reenactment of a so-called Low Emission Zone (LEZ) as a measure to help clean the capital's air in the winter.

It legally came into force last year, but never worked effectively because there was no software yet to detect violators and issue fines. Now there is software, but it is still not clear how the fines, which will range between 50 and 200 levs, will be handed to violators. It seems, at least for now, that the system will rely mostly on the goodwill of drivers, but it is still a move in the right direction.

The French asset management company announced record assets under its clout - as of the end of September they reached 2.2 trillion euro. The company's Bulgarian office told Capital that total sales in the country currently stood at 1.08 billion euro at the end of September, and this includes mutual and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The former are actively managed and the latter - passively. Net flows as of the third quarter were 121.5 million euro, which is sales excluding redemptions from institutional and private clients.

Peevski convenes national conference to oust Dogan and his supporters from MRF

MRF Co-Chairman Delyan Peevski is convening an extraordinary national conference of the ethnic Turkish party in which he will try to exclude from the party Honorary Chairman Ahmed Dogan and the faction around him, which participated in the 27 October early election under the name Alliance for Rights and Freedoms. According to a press release sent on Thursday afternoon, the conference will be held on 22 December in Hall 3 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.

After Ahmed Dogan's failed attempt to take out Peevski from the leadership of the party at the end of August, which has so far been stopped in court, the US- and UK-sanctioned co-chairman of the party launched a campaign alleging that Dogan and his loyalists are not part of the movement, because they violated its statute by standing for election with the credentials of another formation.
